Eric
Schmidt ’76, chief executive officer
and chairman of Google Inc. in Mountainview, Calif.,
was named to
the University’s Board of Trustees.
He earned his bachelor of science in engineering (B.S.E.)
in electrical engineering.
A member of the development office’s Leadership
Council, he has served on the advisory council for the
Department of Computer Science. He also participated
in the School of Engineering and Applied Science’s
strategic planning effort this year.
Roy Rubin ’90 has been named the new medical director
of pediatric orthopedics for the Sutter Children’s
Center in Sacramento, Calif.
Dr. Ruben earned his B.S.E. from Princeton in mechanical
and aerospace engineering(MAE). He earned his medical
degree at the Temple University School of Medicine.
Dr. Rubin, one of the few pediatric orthopedic surgeons
in northern California, will be charged with expanding
the Center’s orthopedics program. The Sutter Medical
Center is providing specially designed equipment for
children.
Patrick Beattie ’04
has accepted a two-year assignment with the Peace Corps
to seve as an education volunteer
in Gambia, West Africa.

Mr. Beattie, who earned his B.S.E. in chemical engineering,
will work with Gambian citizens to develop math and science
education programs in secondary schools. He left the
United States to begin training on July 5.
Tora Harris ’02
placed third in the high jump event at the U.S. Olympic
Trials.
He cleared 2.27 meters (7 ft. 5.25 in.), and became the
first Princeton graduate to qualify for the U.S. Olympic
track and field team since 1984.
Mr. Harris made his Olympic debut at the 2004 Summer
Games in Athens, but did not qualify for the finals.
