SEAS Leadership Council convenes

The Leadership Council for the School of Engineering met in April for what was described by Dean James Wei as a "working seminar." Dean Wei sought input from council members on three topics:

* Where to go

* How to get there

* What kind of leader is needed to meet the first two challenges

"Our mission is to educate future leaders," Dean Wei said. "Our B.S.E. niche is 'engineering as liberal education.' About one fourth of our graduates practice engineering. The other three fourths do other things like go to law school, medical school, or into consulting.

This means that our engineering education is a platform for doing other things," he continued. "Princeton University has a first-rate system for exposing our engineering students to the liberal arts. And it gives the perfect setting for reaching out to the A.B. students."

Reaching out to A.B. students is part of the school's mission. Because engineering students benefit so much from their interaction with the liberal arts side of campus, we are returning the favor by helping liberal arts students learn about technology. It just makes sense at Princeton."
