New cohort of fellows arrive
20 begin studies as Wu
and Upton fellows

Twenty students began their graduate work in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) this fall as recipients of the most prestigious fellowships offered to study engineering at Princeton.

Nine students hold Gordon Wu Graduate Fellowships in Engineering, and 11 received Francis Upton Fellowships in Engineering.

The new fellows were welcomed to Princeton University Oct. 10, with a dinner and reception at Prospect House.

"When you leave here and are successful, remember that you have a responsibility to do something to help society," said James Wei, dean of the SEAS. "Every discipline can contribute something beneficial to society."

John Wilson, dean of the graduate school, told the new graduate students that he is very proud of Princeton's leadership in offering all first-year graduate students fellowships.

"The fellowships that you have are premier fellowships, and we are particularly proud to have you here," he said.

The Wu Fellowships are made possible by the generosity of Sir Gordon Y.S. Wu '58 and are awarded to new graduate students who demonstrate the potential to be world leaders in their fields.

The Upton Fellowships are made possible by a gift from The Lucy and Eleanor S. Upton Charitable Foundation and matched by Sir Gordon Wu '58. Recipients are selected based on outstanding academic records and potential for future success.
