GRADUATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Every Princeton Engineering Ph.D. and M.S.E. student receives full funding; in addition to a stipend, Ph.D. students are guaranteed a first-year fellowship from the University while M.S.E. students receive teaching and/or research assistantships. This level of support continues throughout the program, assuming progress is satisfactory.

The M.Eng. program is not funded by the University; students should seek funding from other sources such as employers or government/private grants, or apply for financial aid through the Princeton University Graduate School Office.

Students are strongly encouraged to apply for distinguished national fellowships from organizations such as NSF, NDSEG, NASA, and NIH.

Students may live in University or off-campus housing. The University provides housing for 80% of the graduate student population. More information is available from the Graduate School Office

Gordon Wu Fellowships in Engineering and Francis Upton Graduate Fellowships in Engineering are awarded to the top applicants to the Ph.D. and M.S. programs in engineering.

Wu Fellowships were created in honor of Sir Gordon Y.S. Wu, who in 1958 earned his bachelor’s of science in engineering from the SEAS. Today, Sir Gordon is one of the most influential engineers and businessmen in the world.

The Upton Fellowships are named for Francis Robbins Upton, the very first student to officially earn, by examination, a graduate degree from Princeton. He received a Masters of Science in 1877.
