UNDERGRADUATE

Summer Study and Work Abroad

  • A student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering spent the summer following his sophomore year studying Russian in St. Petersburg, Russia, supported by a Martin A. Dale '53 award; the following summer he participated in the Tahoe-Baikal Institute on Lake Baikal in Siberia working on wind energy systems.
  • A student in Civil Engineering and Operations Research (Structures and Mechanics) spent the summer following her junior year as an intern in the Technical Research Institute of the Kajima Construction Company in Japan investigating bridge design and structural retrofitting.
  • Two students, one in Computer Science and the other in Electrical Engineering, spent the summer after their junior year in Singapore working at the National University of Singapore's Institute of Systems Science on projects related to their major, through the Princeton-in-Asia program.
  • A student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering spent the summer after her sophomore year working for Siemens Corporation in Berlin, Germany, through the Princeton German Summer Work Program.

Academic study abroad

  • A junior in Civil Engineering and Operations Research (Geological Engineering) spent a fall semester studying studying at Flinders University in Australia through the Butler University program.
  • A sophomore in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering spent the spring semester studying at the University of London, Queen Mary and Westfield College, in England.
  • A sophomore in Civil Engineering and Operations Research (Environmental Engineering) spent the spring term studying at the University of Tubingen in Germany.
  • A student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering took a leave of absence after his sophomore year and spent the following year studying in the Japan in Today's World program at Kyushu University; he then returned to resume his studies as a junior.

Postgraduate Study and Work

  • Students from a variety of engineering departments have studied at British universities (recently, Oxford, Cambridge, Sussex) under Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill, and Fulbright Scholarships.
  • Several B.S.E. graduates annually spend a year teaching math and science at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore through the Princeton-in-Asia program.
