Zephyr Photonics, a research and development company, has appointed Dan Tuck as its new general manager and vice president of component operations. The company said Tuck brings experience in technology development, operations management and strategic business planning.

Tuck’s prior position was COO and vice president of engineering for Datastrip, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of mobile hand-held biometric terminals. He also has held head management positions at Microphase Corp., Paragon Networks, IPC Information Systems and other technology companies. After earning his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Texas, Tuck received a master’s from Princeton in electrical engineering and computer science.

Founded in 1987, Zephyr serves the Department of Defense and the aerospace, industrial, energy and intelligence industries. Independently, it has developed a patented VCSEL technology that enables the production of integrated optoelectronic modules for ultra-wide bandwidth data networking and optical interconnect applications in harsh environments.
