Seven engineering faculty members receive NSF CAREER awards

Seven Princeton Engineering faculty members are among the recipients of the National Science Foundation’s CAREER awards during the past year.

The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program offers the NSF’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Each award provides a minimum of $400,000 over five years, enabling early-career academic scientists and engineers to build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.

New awardees from the School of Engineering and Applied Science are:

Danqi Chen, an assistant professor of computer science, for the project Building next-generation language models based on retrieval;

Chi Jin, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, for the project Foundations of reinforcement learning under partial observability;

Jason Klusowski, an assistant professor of operations research and financial engineering, for the project Statistical learning with recursive partitioning: Algorithms, accuracy and applications;

Karthik Narasimhan, an assistant professor of computer science, for the project Reading to learn: Language-guided machine learning;

Yuri Pritykin, an assistant professor of computer science and genomics, for the project Molecular mechanisms, algorithms and software for design and analysis of genome perturbation experiments;

Bartolomeo Stellato, an assistant professor of operations research and financial engineering, for the project Learning for real-time embedded optimization;

and Michael Webb, an assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering, for the project Multiscale simulation and machine learning for smart polymer design.
