Wesley Harris *68 to share new post of associate provost for faculty equity at MIT

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology appointed Wesley Harris to share the newly established post of Associate Provost for Faculty Equity. Harris, head of MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, will share the position with Barbara Liskov, MIT’s Ford Professor of Engineering. Harris and Liskov will address MIT’s faculty diversity and equity along with related gender and minority issues.

Harris has been a member of the MIT faculty since1972, leaving from 1985 to 1990 to serve as dean of engineering at the University of Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. in 1968 in mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton. He is a former trustee of Princeton and a former member of Leadership Council of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Harris returned to campus in April to present the plenary remarks at Leading Change in Science and Technology: A Princeton Engineering Conference for Black Alumni.
