Aleksandra Smiljanic was recently appointed Minister of Telecommunications and Information Society in the Government of Serbia. Born in Belgrade. Smiljanic earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton in 1999. A faculty member at Belgrade University in the electrical engineering department, she also is an associate research professor at Brooklyn Polytechnic University and an adjunct professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Smiljanic has published numerous papers on the topic of high-performance switching and routing. Seven of her inventions have been patented. Smiljanic formerly worked at AT&T Labs, where she was recognized in 2000 with a Research Excellence Award.
