Three years after Leonard Liu founded Augmentum, a software development firm based in Foster City, Calif., the company’s workforce has doubled in size from 500 employees to more than 1,000. The majority of the company’s programmers, who create software for industry giants including Microsoft, Dell and Intel, are based in China. Liu, who was recently featured in U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek magazines, earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Princeton. He taught at the University of Michigan and then led research teams at IBM for over 20 years.
