Composers & Computers: An interview with Jazz Writer Bill Meredith

Bonus Episode: Jazz Writer Bill Meredith on Stanley Jordan

In this bonus episode we speak with jazz writer Bill Meredith about Stanley Jordan, whose time at Princeton exemplifies the creativity that emerges at the intersection of engineering and the arts.

Meredith is a freelance music writer based in Southern Florida. He’s written multiple articles on Jordan. He’s written for JazzTimes and JAZZIZ magazine. He had a longstanding music column in the Palm Beach Post.

Jordan’s website notes that he has “consistently displayed a chameleonic musical persona of openness, imagination, versatility and maverick daring.” But during our interviews with Jordan for this podcast, it also became clear that he puts a bigger premium on artistic success than he does money or fame. In our conversation, Meredith explores this dynamic, as well as which of Jordan’s recordings make for essential listening.
