From the Princeton University School of Engineering and Applied Science, this is Cookies, a podcast about technology security, and privacy. On this podcast, we’ll discuss how technology has transformed our lives, from the way we connect with each other, to the way we shop, work, and consume entertainment. And we’ll discuss some of the hidden trade-offs we make, as we take advantage of these new tools. Cookies, as you know, can be a tasty snack, but they can also be something that takes your data. If you’ve ever had the experience of Googling a product and suddenly seeing ads for it in your social media feed, or maybe you’ve noticed that your electronic entertainment devices know your preferences just a little too well, or if you’ve wondered if the YouTube video review of the gadget you’re thinking of buying is nothing more than a paid commercial, this podcast is for you.

In our first season of seven full episodes, we have a great lineup of Princeton faculty and other researchers, as well as their collaborators at other institutions. It’s been great fun to talk with these people because they are not only pioneers in their fields, but also because they are thinking broadly about the implications of the technology we are so quickly creating. We think you’ll enjoy learning about what our electronic devices are doing with our data behind the scenes, and what we can do to regain some control. Watch for our first episode soon. You can subscribe to this podcast so you don’t miss an episode. I’m Aaron Nathans. digital media editor at Princeton Engineering. Talk to you soon. Peace
