The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has named Jianqing Fan as a recipient of its Humboldt Research Award.

The awards, granted annually to fewer than 100 scientists throughout the world, are based primarily on the researchers’ lifetime academic achievements. Winners are invited to conduct an original research project of their own design in close collaboration with a German colleague over a period of six months to a year.

Fan’s research interests include financial econometrics and risk management, as well as the development of statistical methods that can be used to solve problems from the frontiers of scientific research in a number of disciplines.

Fan, the Frederick L. Moore Class of 1918 Professor of Finance, directs Princeton’s Committee for Statistical Studies and is the 2006-2007 president-elect of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He was named a fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science earlier this year. He also is a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association and is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute.
