In July, Michael D. Smith, associate dean of computer science and engineering at Harvard, will become Harvard’s dean of the faculty of arts and sciences. Smith, the Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, has been a member of the faculty at Harvard since 1992 and is highly regarded for his innovative research in computer architecture and his interdisciplinary applications of technology to a wide range of fields. After earning a B.S.E. in electrical engineering and computer science at Princeton, Smith received an M.S. in from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. from Stanford, both degrees electrical engineering.
