Operations research and financial engineering professor Alain Kornhauser has been recognized for his contributions to transportation engineering at the state and national levels.

The American Society of Civil Engineers honored Kornhauser with the 2007 Francis C. Turner Award “for pushing the envelope of imagination, creativity and innovation in transportation engineering. His academic research and business accomplishments serve as inspiration and motivation for generations of current and future engineering professionals.”

Additionally, the New Jersey Senate approved Gov. Jon Corzine’s nomination of Kornhauser to the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology.

Kornhauser, the co-director of the multiuniversity New Jersey Transportation Information and Decision Engineering Center, earned his Ph.D. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton in 1971. He joined the University faculty the following year.

The founder of ALK Technologies, a transportation technology company based in Princeton, Kornhauser also serves as the faculty advisor to the Princeton Autonomous Vehicle Engineering team. Last year, PAVE was a semifinalist in the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency Urban Challenge, a competition to design autonomous ground vehicles capable of conducting simulated military supply missions in a mock urban area.
