Steven McLaughlin is the new Steve W. Chaddick School Chair in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. McLaughlin oversees the school’s more than 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students and more than 100 faculty members. The school graduates the largest number of electrical and computer engineers in the country.

In addition, he is president of GT Global Inc., a not-for-profit corporation recently created to manage select Georgia Tech international initiatives, and co-founder of Whisper Communications, established in 2009 to commercialize technologies developed in his research group.

Previously, McLaughlin was the vice provost for International Initiatives and Steven A. Denning Chair in Global Engagement, and the Ken Byers Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

McLaughlin received a BSEE from Northwestern University in 1985, followed by a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 1986, and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan in 1992.
