Lawrence Leighton was named in August to join the board of directors of China Natural Gas, a leading provider of compressed natural gas for industrial and residential use in China. Leighton, who has more than 40 years of international investment banking experience, will serve as chairman of the board’s audit and compensation committees. The company appointed him and two other new directors to help bolster its corporate governance system.

Leighton is managing director of Bentley Associates, a New York-based investment banking firm. Prior to joining Bentley, he held executive positions at UI USA (the U.S. subsidiary of the French bank Union d’√âtudes et d’Investissements), Bear Sterns and Chase Investment Bank. After receiving a B.S.E. in mechanical engineering from Princeton in 1956, Leighton earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
