The Mayo Clinic has announced that Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, was elected a new member of its board of trustees.
Schmidt has been with Google since 2001, serving as CEO before becoming executive chairman in 2011. The tech company has grown tremendously during those years, offering a steady increase of diverse, innovative products. As executive chairman, Schmidt changed his focus from internal management and growth to external matters that include building partnerships, business relationships, and government outreach.
Among his leadership roles outside of Google, Schmidt serves on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council in the United Kingdom. He is a current trustee of the Institute for Advanced Study and a former one of Princeton University,
Schmidt graduated from Princeton in 1976 with a BSE in electrical engineering, then went on to earn an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in computer science, both from the University of California at Berkeley.
The Mayo Clinic’s 31-member board is responsible for patient care, medical education, and research at Mayo Clinic sites and Mayo Clinic Health System clinics and hospitals in locations across the country.
